New Releases for the Week of August 26th, 2012: God of War Saga, InFamous Collection, Ratchet & Clank Collection

God Of War Saga Collection God of War Saga (PlayStation 3) This is compilation bringing together all five God of War games released to date: PlayStation 2 games God of War and God of War 2, PlayStation 3’s God of War 3, and the Sony PSP’s God of War: Ghost of Sparta and God of War: Chains of Olympus. Never before has so much unspeakably bloody mayhem been brought together for $30. The games have been remastered for high definition resolutions, and the two PSP games can both be played in stereoscopic 3D if you have a television that supports it.

There doesn’t appear to be any new game content, but this is a really good jumping-on point for people interested in the series who’ve never played it and probably a good deal for God of War fans who don’t have all of the games. Also good if you’re a diehard God of War fan who’s just incredibly lazy and want the convenience of being able to play through all five of Kratos’ adventures in a row without getting up and making the trek from your chair to your PS3 to change discs.

InFamous Collection (PlayStation 3) Speaking of Sony-exclusive franchises starring extremely powerful bald men, the superhero series infamous is also being brought together in this compilation containing InFamous, InFamous 2, and InFamous 2’s vampire-themed DLC Festival of Blood. The InFamous games have been among my favorites of this console generation, and if you haven’t played them I can’t recommend them strongly enough if you like action/adventure games, open worlds, or superheroes. They’re both fantastic fun, and the first game still sticks out in my mind as the first game this generation I played that made me stop and say, “OK, this really isn’t the PlayStation 2 any more.”

Ratchet & Clank Collection (PlayStation 3) Continuing the current craze for collections of popular Sony-exclusive franchises that is apparently sweeping the nation like a nerdy version of Beatlemania, Ratchet & Clank Collection brings together the three games in the action/platformer series originally released on the PlayStation 2: Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. All three games have been remastered to support high-definition resolutions- up to 1080p, too, not the 720p these remasters usually seem to be limited to- as well as stereoscopic 3D in 720p resolution. The multiplayer mode of Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal will be available via the PlayStation Network.
